Water resources and management is one of NEO's main research topics, which includes studies on hydrological and water resource change under ongoing climate change, tourism-urbanism development, and other land-water-use and environmental changes.

Long-term data series on hydrology, water quality and environmental pollutants are of fundamental importance in studies within this research theme, which also use hydrological and environmental monitoring programs.
