Miranda, master student at the Department of Physical Georaphy, Stockholm University is studying Gialova lagoon for her thesis. The aim of the thesis is to assess the water quality and level of eutrophication using imagery from the Copernicus Programme’s Sentinel-2 satellites and validating those with in situ data. During her stay at NEO, with the help of the fishermen working in the lagoon, installed sensors to measure incoming and reflected radiation. She also took water samples and analysed nutrients, phosphate, nitrate, nitrite and ammonia and using a sonde sensor she measured other water quality parameters too.
